positives of this film-
Finding Nemo is a fun, loving, colorful family movie which follows Marlin, Nemo and Dory as they go through a memorable journey unlocking multiple parts of their personality. This film is a perfect example where kids can have fun learning as we see Marlin and Nemos wonderful home on the Great Barrier Reef where kids can see multiple species of fish and the structure their habitat has. There are so many learning points in this movie like the fact parents will always protect their children even if doing so puts their own life at risk. While on the topic of family we notice how devoted of a father Marlin is, we watch as he is always making sure his son is in good health. He travels into the ocean, breaking his biggest fear in order to keep his only child safe and be the best father he can be. He teaches us about parenting and shows that family is to be treasured and kept close to the heart, even when his children aren’t even born we hear his excitement as he tells his wife what an amazing place he had fought to get for his family and how he wanted the best for all his family making sure they had a colorful, safe environment and the best possible schooling. Although it seems extreme this movie teaches the children about animalistic instincts and the food chain, showing the pelican eats fish, the whale eats krill, sharks eat fish, people eat fish and many there examples, also showing how dangerous life can be for other animals who seemingly live in fear, we can see how the fish are a common prey to multiple predators. Another positive is the fact we see all the way from the ocean’s surface, to the dark depths ,giving us a glimpse of the different animals which inhabit these areas and how the sea life can change so fast.
Finding Nemo negatives-
Along with positives sadly this film has errors. Bullying and peer pressure is apparent in this family film and sadly we watch as two fish bully a hermit crab, our main character Nemo tries to stop yet his father decides to urge him to walk past and be a bystander to this bullying taking place before their very eyes. This is a horrible message for children it's teaching them to be a bystander to bulling, so if they see it to just ignore it and do not go out of your way to assist the Victim. With the idea of bullying we look deeper and also see the effects of peer pressure, Nemo is near the edge of his safe heaven when all the other kids he considered his friends decide to break the rules and swim into the open sea we watch them nag him to try and begin calling him names like ‘chicken’ in hope to pressure him into going against his conscious. Peer pressure sadly is a big problem with many children of this generation and this scene is suggesting if you don’t follow the other kids you are a wimp or scaredy cat. This film has some very depressing scenes that still have adults crying ,we see so much grieving and mourning in this film , we just feel so connected to the characters after going on journeys with them and to see them in pain is somewhat which is gut wrenching. This film also has some deeper hidden meanings which are touchy to some people. It discreetly covers the topic of children passing on at a young age, mental illness, deep grievance and Shark culling. Although the younger audience may not quite understand these confronting topics the adult’s movie goers can feel deep melancholy at certain part of this film.
My opinion on Finding Nemo-
This film I find very entertaining and educational. I like how it is set in the endangered Great Barrier Reef, showing the many vibrant species which inhabit this fish friendly environment. There are many deeper hidden messages in this film and I believe this is good for it makes people think deeper about problems they may have to experience in the future. This is a great family flick as it portrays that no family is completely perfect, there are always going to be little fights, however, we must be cautious with what we say for it can have a massive effect on the ones we love. This film shows multiple environments including, the reef, the open sea, urban areas and all the way to the deep, dark ocean floor, I personally think this is a great idea as I allows us to see the different sea life and how they have adapted to their unique habitat with each growing to suit their unique home.
Some recommendations for this film is to have less grief as it is a very depressing thing that can change people and this film shows so much of this touchy topic It can have a negative effect on viewers. I would also like to recommend more success in this movie because we see our main characters trying their hardest yet failing and this is not a positive message to show our youth.
